Facts about Titanium

Titanium is immune to corrosive attacks by saltwater and marine atmosphere and exhibits exceptional resistance to a broad range of corrosive gases, acids and alkalis. It is immune to microbiologically influenced corrosion and is physiologically inert and hypoallergenic. Titanium is virtually non-magnetic, making it ideal for applications where electromagnetic interference must be minimized. Pure it is about as strong as steel yet nearly 50% lighter. When added to various alloys, its hardness, toughness and tensile strength can be increased dramatically.
Titanium is never found pure and occurs as an oxide in ilmenite, rutile and sphene, and is present in titanates and in many iron ores. Titanium is present in the ash of coal, in plants, and in the human body. The complex process of converting titanium ore into metal has only been commercially viable for a little more than 50 years. It's use has since then expanded by an average of 8% per year.
Zirconium most People associate the metal Zirconium with the diamond simulant gem Cubic Zirconium. In fact Cubic Zirconium is an oxidized silicate derivative of the metal. Obtaining pure Zirconium is very difficult. The grey white shiny metal resembles Titanium but is heavier resembling precious metals in its weight and feel. Zirconium is also a hypo-allergenic metal which is corrosion resistant like titanium. In jewellery the metal comes in its natural silver colour or in a black colour similar to onyx which can be matt or shiny in appearance. Because of its strength resizing a Zirconium ring is very difficult so we recommend you are sure of your size before you buy Zirconium rings.
